The announcement of ChatGPT in November 2022 was massive and shock the internet industry in a way that made Google announce “Code Red” internally.

To understand how significant this new technology was to google, let’s dive back to the history of Search Engine.

TL;DR

Google continues to dominate the search engine market with a 93% share, despite Bing’s integration attempts with AI like ChatGPT. While Bing has yet to make significant inroads, the future of search is uncertain. As technology advances, traditional search methods may become obsolete, paving the way for more intuitive and dynamic approaches.

The History of “Search”

The emergence of the World Wide Web revolutionized navigation and browsing through the use of hyperlinks, earning it the moniker “Web” due to its interconnected nature, resembling a spider’s web linking various pages.

This innovation significantly simplified the process of traversing web pages. As the internet expanded in the early 1990s, new companies began to provide indexing services, categorizing pages into single platforms in a similar fashion to yellow pages directories.
